2019: Still Going Strong
One of my favorite story to tell about the inception of Hugo Moto is that now infamous phone call with Luca my motorcycle designer friend from Bologna, Italy. It was the end of 2016 as I pitched the idea of Hugo's kit to Luca on the phone. After a short silence he answered: "Man, the scrambler thing is already dying off in Europe!" implying that my quest wasn't going to end well. Some three years later the quest is still going, bootstrapping a startup is far from being easy, but Hugo is scrambling along bringing every month more Harley-Davidson Sportster off the tarmac and onto the gravel.
The True Definition of the Word
Much ink has been spilled about scramblers and what it means or doesn't to us riders. Opinionated journalists around the interwebs have even tried to define the meaning of the word Scrambler today as marketing agencies around the world have managed to lump a lot of different bikes with very different specs under the umbrella word Scrambler. The word almost lost its meaning. I thought it was time to go back to the roots and dig into some old "Leanings" in Cycle World Magazine.
No one has really managed to define what the word really means better than the master himself Peter Egan" What These bikes had going for them is romance and versatility". I think our Hugo Moto kitted H-D Sportster fits the bill!
Hope you enjoy the read as much as I did.
